The Cheshire Women’s Cricket League held another successful annual presentation dinner at Chester Boughton Hall CC last Saturday.

For the first time, the same player won the awards for all three disciplines in the same category. Hannah Jones of Didsbury was the best batsman, bowler and fielder according to the statistics for the league’s T20 competitions.

A number of awards were only settled after some dramatic events on the last day. Lorna Starkey, captain of league champions Chester Boughton Hall, scored 116, the second highest individual score of the year, on the final day, allowing her to overhaul what had looked like a comfortable lead for Emma Barlow.

Perhaps the most closely fought award was the division two bowling award. At the start of the final matches, six bowlers were locked together on nine wickets – Stockport Trinity’s Katy Hart and Olivia Smith, Oxton’s Ellie Grisedale and the Wistaston Village trio of Alison Smith, Hannah Bratt and Emily Mackenzie. Hart’s two wickets on September 11 ensured she moved into the outright lead and thus bagged the award.
