Appleton win twice on Finals Day

FINALS DAY

Development Knockout Final:

Upton 100-9 (20; Charlie Scudder 27ret)
Nantwich Vipers 83-9 (20; Emily Clamp 18, Gemma Black 6-13)

These two sides have both had an excellent first season, but largely thanks to Gemma Black really rising to the occasion with the ball, Upton recorded their third win of the season over Nantwich to land the first silverware of the day.

Senior Knockout Final:

Stockport Trinity Fire 49 (13.4; Carys White 23, Nathalie Long 3-8, Sami Fowler 2-14)
Appleton Tigers 50-6 (14.4; Eloise Jackson 21*, Emma Royle 4-3)

The Trinity innings never really got going, with only Carys White able to get to grips with the Appleton attack. However, a blistering opening spell from Emma Royle reduced Appleton to 11-5 in reply, and they were grateful to Eloise Jackson for seeing them home to their first Knockout Cup since 2010.

T20 Divisional Competition Final:

Stockport Trinity Fire 90 (18.3; Gaby McKeever 45, Carys White 26*, Kathryn Jackson 3-18, Olivia Horsfield 2-17)
Appleton Tigers 92-2 (16.4; Emma Barlow 25ret, Georgia Heath 21*)

And it was again Appleton’s trophy in the second final between these two teams. Trinity made a more competitive total this time, although they did need Gaby McKeever and Carys White to return to the crease after initially retiring to boost their total. Appleton’s run chase was a more comfortable affair on this occasion, and again it was their first win in this competition in eight seasons. These were Trinity’s first two defeats in any competition this year.

LEAGUE MATCHES

Division Three West – August 14:

Chester Boughton Hall 2nd XI 107-6 (20; Beth Nicholson 29ret, Nicole Fisher 26ret, Laura Wilson 2-16) (7pts)
Hawarden Park 108-4 (18; S Smale 34, Jane Martindale 2-31) (25pts)

Hawarden completed an impressive run chase with two overs remaining to record their second league win of the season.

Division Three Cross-Divisional – August 16:

Woodley 135-1 (20; Abby Barlow 73, Alex Wilson 49*) (25pts)
Chester Boughton Hall 2nd XI 76-5 (20; Nic Capes 31, Fiona Reeve 3-7) (5pts)

Another impressive performance from Woodley, and from Abby Barlow in particular, set things up for a crunch match at the top of Division 3 East on Monday. Whoever wins between Woodley and Appleton seconds will be in pole position to land the title.
