CHESHIRE WOMEN’S LEAGUE

Division One – July 15:

Appleton decisively won what was a battle of the top two sides. The Warrington club are now in pole position for their first title since 2015, indeed a repeat of their 2010 treble remains possible. Like so many of their wins this year and in previous years, Emma Barlow with the bat and Nathalie Long with the ball played a significant role. Abbey Gore also picked up two cheap wickets – the former Neston, Chester and Warrington leg-spinner has returned to the league this year, and she still holds the record for the best bowling analysis for the League representative XI, set back in 2010.

Appleton and Oakmere are now the two front runners, and after Kerry Hartnett led Oakmere to victory here, Chester now have as many as three league defeats to their name.

Division Two – July 15:

Stockport Trinity 255-2 (40; Kate Harvey 121*, Gaby McKeever 44*, Carys White 36) (24pts)
Oxton 203-3 (40; Megan Cureton 103*, Tessie Nickson 47, Sophie McArdle 2-44) (6pts)

The league runs aggregate record fell here as these two sides served up 458 runs between them. Megan Cureton equalled the previous best for the highest individual score made in a losing cause – with 103 not out this is now jointly held by the young Oxton captain and by Penny Critchlow, who made the same score for Romiley versus Chester in 2014. Cureton and Tessie Nickson added 172 for the second wicket. However, for all that Oxton contributed to this match, they still fell some 50 runs short of Trinity’s total, after Kate Harvey scored 121 – the highest individual score in the league so far this year. Trinity are just two victories away from wrapping up the division two title.

T20 DIVISIONAL COMPETITION

Western Division – July 10:

Chester were formidable opponents in recording a T20 trophy double last season, but here their challenge in this competition for 2018 ended as Appleton maintained their 100 per cent record.

July 13:

Oakmere Kats 101-3 (Shami Ahmed 25ret, Hayley Coutts 25ret, Jen Regan 3-29)

In what is becoming a very difficult season for them in the main league competition, the T20 competitions have been Wistaston’s salvation. Here they recorded an impressive win over Oakmere in something of a run spree, and the Crewe-based club could yet pip Appleton to the Western Division top spot.

Eastern Division – July 9:

Stockport Trinity Fire 172-3 (20; Kate Harvey 27ret, Gaby McKeever 27ret, Carys White 26ret, Olivia Smith 25ret, Emma Royle 22*)
Woodley 92-8 (20; Abby Barlow 26ret, Fiona Reeve 20, Alice Smith 2-17, Lucy Higginbotham 2-26)

After making it four wins from four, Trinity are closing in on top spot in the Eastern Division and the place in the Final that comes with it. This latest win saw them record runs all the way down the scorecard, on the way to the highest T20 team score of the season.
