Cheshire cricket folk planning to watch the Lancashire Thunder team in the inaugural Kia Women’s Super League this season will be excited to learn that England wicketkeeper and star batsman Sarah Taylor has been confirmed as captain.

Four players with connections to Cheshire club cricket are included: Wistaston Village’s Laura Newton, Chester Boughton Hall’s Sophie Ecclestone, Astley Bridge’s Nalisha Patel and Bramhall’s Emma Lamb. England’s Kate Cross and Danielle Wyatt will also turn out for this team, and the overseas players will be Deandra Dottin of the West Indies, Sarah Coyte of Australia and Hayley Matthews of the West Indies (man of the match in the recent World T20 Final).

Lancashire County Cricket Club members and supporters who have purchased a 2016 NatWest T20 Blast season ticket will be able to watch Lancashire Thunder home fixtures free of charge. Otherwise, general admission will be £5 for adults and £1 for under 18s.

Lancashire Thunder play Yorkshire Diamonds (whose squad includes Katherine Brunt, Lauren Winfield, Danielle Hazell and Jenny Gunn; alongside overseas players Shabnim Ismail, Beth Mooney and Alex Blackwell) in the Super League’s ‘Roses’ fixture at Old Trafford on Friday August 12 at 1800. Before that, Lancashire Thunder play Southern Vipers (Charlotte Edwards, Lydia Greenway, Natasha Farrant, Suzie Bates, Sara McGlashan, Megan Schutt) at Blackpool CC on August 5 at 1430.
