Results week 1

By Martin Saxon

Division One – April 22:

Oakmere 111 (38; Shami Ahmed 45, Dawn Prestidge 28, Hannah Jones 3-10, K Carson 2-13, Rosie Wilson 2-14) (25pts)
Didsbury 28 (32; Sarah Worsdale 3-5, Leah Holland 3-6, Emma Tarpey 2-2) (5pts)

• 2016 champions Chester Boughton Hall started their defence of the Championship last year with a heavy defeat to Oakmere. This year, it is of course Oakmere who are defending the league title, and a superb display from the Northwich side’s bowlers ensured that their campaign got off to a spectacular start.

Appleton 93 (36; Chris McLean 32; Morganne Prince 3-10, Jen Regan 3-13, Christine Lawson 2-33) (25pts)
Wistaston Village 75 (33; Regan 18, Hannah Bratt 18, Olivia Horsfield 3-9, Sami Fowler 2-5, Kathryn Jackson 2-14) (7pts)

• Playing their first match in Cheshire’s top flight, Wistaston got off to an excellent start, with Jen Regan inflicting a good deal of damage on the batting line up of her former club. Morganne Prince was also in the wickets on her return to the sport, with this match also marking her captaincy debut. However, a lower order rally from Appleton, led by Chris McLean, saw them to a total that was ultimately beyond Wistaston’s reach.

Division Two – April 22:

Stockport Georgians 96 (34.2; Liv Bell 26, Kate Renshaw 3-8, Molly Price 2-12, Ellie Grisedale 2-17, Alexa Harrison 2-20) (25pts)
Oxton 71 (36.2; Price 26, Beth Garnett 3-17, Liv Bell 2-9, Natalie Bell 2-10) (6pts)

• It would already have been a big day for Georgians anyway, as they played their first match in the league’s 40 over divisions. However, after their bowlers took regular wickets against their opposition from the Wirral, and completed victory with something to spare, it really did turn into a momentous day in Stockport.

Stockport Trinity v Leigh – Match cancelled, 8pts each

Division One / Two Cross Divisional – April 22:

Ashton-on-Mersey 75-5 (40; Carol Ingham 34, Kate Coppack 2-18) (3pts)
Chester Boughton Hall 76-1 (13.2; Ali Cutler 40, Sammi Short 31*) (25pts)

• No mistake on the opening day for Chester this time, as their bowlers shackled Ashton-on-Mersey and kept them below two per over throughout, and as their opening batters raced to the target at almost six per over. Annette Axon and Ali Cutler conceded just five and eight runs respectively from their eight-over spells.
