CHESHIRE WOMEN’S LEAGUE

Division One / Two Cross Divisional – May 20:

Oxton+ 99-6 (40; Megan Cureton 42, Starkey 5-6) (7pts)

Oxton secured moral victories of a sort by bowling out their illustrious opponents, and by making Chester wait more than 30 overs for their first wicket. However, Chester still won reasonable comfortably to stay in pole position. Ali Cutler continued her run of half centuries and there was a rush of wickets for Lorna Starkey once her side had made the breakthrough, giving her the league’s best figures of the year so far.

Leigh 119+ (36; Georgia Taylor 35, Pippa Brown 25, Vicky Heaton 5-34, Natalie Lyons 2-10, Leah Holland 2-21) (4pts)

Oakmere 120-1* (26.1; Dawn Prestidge 76*, Helen Smith 23) (25pts)

Leigh compiled a solid total, but Dawn Prestidge completed Oakmere’s victory in a hurry. Vicky Heaton also joined Chester’s Starkey in becoming one of the first two bowlers in the league this year to claim a five-wicket haul.

Ashton-on-Mersey+ 191-5 (40; Vicki Dean 63, Mary Priestner 37, Nicola Nolan 26*) (25pts)

Wistaston Village* 52 (17; Dean 4-3, Maria Kerrison 2-10, Sarah Sutcliffe 2-15, Priestner 2-15) (4pts)

In this encounter of two sides who were still without a victory, Ashton-on-Mersey were boosted by the return of both Vicki Dean and Mary Priestner for their first appearances of the year, and with a half-century and a hat-trick, Dean was undoubtedly the star turn in her side’s victory.

Division Three West – May 20:

Upton 140-2 (30; Lily Scudder 50*, Cath Williams 30, Charlie Scudder 25*) (25pts)

Hawarden Park 118-6 (30; T Ware-Lane 66*, Hannah McGowan 2-13, Madi Arthur 2-28) (5pts)

Upton’s dream start to their league career continued as they made it three wins from three, and Lily Scudder made a second successive unbeaten half-century. Ware-Lane’s efforts at least ensured Hawarden got much closer to their target than had seemed likely at 20-5.

Division Three East – May 14:

Appleton 2nd XI 143-3 (20; Georgia Heath 37, Chris McLean 31*, Sylvia Christelow 23, Angie Evans 3-22) (25pts)

Lymm Oughtrington Park 49-5 (20; Sue Jones 10) (3pts)

Appleton decisively made it two wins from two, racking up a big total at home to Lymm despite the best efforts of Angie Evans. Annie Roberts then conceded just one run in four overs as she led the way in restricting Lymm’s reply.

KNOCKOUT CUPS

Knockout Cup Round One – May 14:

Stockport Trinity Fire 141-2 (20; Kate Harvey 25ret, Carys White 25ret, Hattie Roberts 25ret, Jennie Kitzinger 22*, Sarah McCann 20)

Woodley 59-8 (20; Abi Barlow 23, Emma Royle 3-2, Harvey 2-3)

All of Trinity’s top five reached 20 as their side kept up an excellent scoring rate throughout. Abi Barlow stood firm for a while, but Emma Royle quickly dismissed the rest of the top four to snuff out any remaining hope for Woodley.

NATIONAL KNOCKOUT

National Knockout Round Two – May 20:

Stockport Georgians 123-4 (20; Rosemary Duckworth 25ret)

Whitwell 89-5 (20; Grace Fishleigh 40ret, Liv Bell 2-6)

· Georgians’ first entry into the National competition was a resounding success, as the bowlers of Derbyshire club Whitwell failed to claim a wicket, with the Cheshire League club able to retire all of their top four after getting time at the crease.

Didsbury beat Norden – no further details at present

· It was a double for the two League sides that have entered the National competition, and Didsbury will now host Georgians next week. Whilst this means one of the CWCL sides will exit the competition, it also means that the League is guaranteed to be represented in round four.
