Week 2 Results

By Martin Saxon

Division One:

Oakmere 173 (37; Kerry Hartnett 101, Sophie Connor 40, Emma Royle 2-19, Jennie Kitzinger 2-19, Gillian Spragg 2-47) (25pts)
Stockport Trinity 131-6 (40; Kitzinger 63*, Sarah McCann 24, Dawn Prestidge 2-18) (9pts)

• Kerry Hartnett’s dream start to the season continues as she once again fired Oakmere to victory. After her unbeaten 102 against Chester the previous week, the former Hampshire batsman was finally dismissed here, but not after she had once again reached three figures. The only batsman in league history to record three back-to-back centuries is her Oakmere team-mate Shami Ahmed, so Hartnett has a chance to equal this feat in her next match. Jennie Kitzinger’s half century and two wickets were in vain as Trinity tasted defeat, having opened with a win last week.

Chester Boughton Hall 126-7 (40; Hannah Snape 31, Nic Capes 25, Georgia Heath 2-15) (7pts)
Appleton 127-5 (29; Emma Barlow 45, Sami Fowler 29, Annette Axon 2-27) (25pts)

• Champions Chester went down to a second defeat, and given that no side in the last decade has been division one champions after losing three matches, there may now be no margin for error if Boughton Hall are to retain their title. A target of little more than three runs per over is not a huge task on Chester’s superb playing facilities, and Emma Barlow duly led Appleton to victory with all of 11 overs to spare.

Division Two:

Leigh 199-8 (40; Nicky Deane 88, Emma Capper 24, Carrie Blood 22, Rachel Downs 20, Ellie Grisdale 3-31) (25pts)
Oxton 140-8 (40; T Nixon 52*, Megan Cureton 43, Kasey Bentham 5-11, Ella Smith 2-19) (8pts)

• Leigh lost their first match while Oxton won theirs, but here Leigh turned the tables on their opponents from the Wirral, to record their first win since their promotion. Nicky Deane’s good start to the season continued as she led her side to an imposing total, before Kasey Bentham became the first bowler this season to bag a five-wicket haul. At this early stage, Wistaston Village, who have played only one match, are the only unbeaten side in the four-team division two.

Division Three:

Lymm Oughtrington Park 47 (17; Abi Barlow 3-8, Gemma Stewart 3-14, Alex Wilson 2-4) (2pts)
Woodley 50-2 (7.4; Barlow 37*, A Wilbs 2-15) (25pts)

• Today’s matches saw a century, a five-wicket haul, and here a hat-trick. Gemma Stewart achieved the feat of three wickets in three balls to lead Woodley to victory in their first match since the team’s move from Bredbury.

Stockport Georgians 149-6 (30; Beth Garnett 37, Rosemary Duckworth 36*) (25pts)
Didsbury 2nd XI 111-8 (30; Garnett 2-17, Liv Bell 2-27) (7pts)
(Didsbury individual performance details not yet available)

• Stockport Georgians scored at five runs per over to set a competitive score that ultimately took them to victory. This result illustrates the strides the fledgling Georgians team – starting only their second year in the league - have made in a short time, as Didsbury won the equivalent match last year by 136 runs.
