Oakmere keep up winning ways High scoring tied game at Oxton

Division One – May 14:

Stockport Trinity 45 (16.5; Kate Coppack 6-15, Lorna Starkey 2-16) (0pts)
Chester Boughton Hall 46-0 (11; Ali Cutler 24*, Starkey 8*) (25pts)

• After two defeats, followed by a first win in their third match when they still weren’t at their best, Chester really kickstarted their season in their fourth match with a devastating example of just what they are still capable of. Kate Coppack’s six wickets led the way to a victory that was completed before 4pm.

Appleton 129-7 (40; Laura Jackson 76*, Charlotte Campion 3-9, Amna Malik 2-20) (25pts)
Didsbury 122 (40; Hannah Jones 32, Leesa Mellon 31, Georgia Heath 3-11, Jess Lewis 3-27) (7pts)

• Appleton were immensely grateful to Lancashire starlet Laura Jackson, who made almost 60 per cent of their modest total in this nailbiting win. For Didsbury the wait for a league win goes on – despite their successes in T20 competitions the South Manchester side have not won a 40 over match for almost 12 months. Here they fell agonizingly short, bowled out in the final over to lose by just seven runs.

Division Two – May 14:

Wistaston Village 189 (40; Katie Bennett 68, Agnes Firth 43, Alison Smith 20, Alexa Harrison 4-35, Freya Davies 3-21) (15pts)
Oxton 189 (40; Amy Benson 44, Charlotte Scudder 38, Hannah Bratt 4-24) (15pts)

• Oxton’s last wicket fell to a run out off the final ball as they sought the single that would have given them an extraordinary victory, and would have broken Wistaston’s own record for the league’s record run chase. Instead, the match ended in a no less extraordinary tie, with the teams having shared 378 runs, the highest in the history of the second division. In such a high scoring match, Alexa Harrison and Hannah Bratt each took four wickets.

Division One / Two Cross Divisional – May 14:

Leigh 60 (33; Ellen Bradshaw 10, Jane Tarpey 2-5, Rachel Warrenger 2-6, Kate Skelhorn 2-10, Hannah Thorley 2-14) (2pts)
Oakmere 61-2 (16; Dawn Prestidge 26*, Kasey Bentham 2-14) (25pts)

• Oakmere march on with their fourth win out of four. Oakmere’s two loan players – Rachel Warrenger and Hannah Thorley – shared four wickets in a good all-round bowling show for the Northwich club.
• Oakmere’s previous wins have all been achieved by batting first and compiling a large total. Not only have Oakmere batsmen achieved five of the seven Division One scores of 50 or above so far, but four of these have been scores of 90 or above – Helen Smith’s 90 not out, Dawn Prestidge’s 97 not out and Kerry Hartnett’s 102 not out and 101. The only other first division players to raise their bats for a half-century so far are Stockport Trinity’s Jennie Kitzinger and Appleton’s Laura Jackson, while Chester and Didsbury are yet to salute their first half-centurion.
• In contrast, all four division two clubs have had at least one half-century so far – Tess Nixon and Alexa Harrison of Oxton, Nicky Deane of Leigh, Amanda Gettins of Ashton-on-Mersey and Wistaston’s Alison Smith and Katie Bennett have all achieved the feat so far.

Division Three – May 8:

Didsbury 2nd XI 117-6 (20) (25pts)
Stockport Georgians 74-4 (20; Beth Garnett 33, Hannah Marshall 2-) (7pts)
(Full performance details not available at present)

• Didsbury compiled a formidable total to reverse their defeat to Georgians from just eight days earlier.

May 14:
Stockport Georgians 91 (30; Liv Bell 20) (25pts)
Woodley 77 (26; Nicole Baker-Tunney 3-9, Beth Garnett 3-10)
(Full performance details not available at present)

• Excellent figures from some of the Georgians attack as they recorded their second league win.
